One of my favorite seasons at Shellmont is summer. Last year on a cold winter afternoon, we began to plan on how to redesign our rear gardens. This led us to the dynamic duo, Vicki and Kimber at Florapolitan. They came up with a unique plan that incorporated all the aspects we were looking for; low maintenance, additional sitting nooks, a larger edible herb and vegetable area and lastly, unusual and eco-friendly plants. They were able to get everything in before the first garden wedding of the season. Even the bride and groom were impressed!
One of the best surprises that the garden brought to us is a little black and white kitty that magically appeared one day in our newly landscaped rear gardens. He adopted us, our guests, and our Atlanta Bed and Breakfast. We promptly named him Tinker. He was underweight, skid-dish and even missing the tip of his ear. Ed says he looks like a Chick-fil-A cow. So when you are relaxing and wandering thru the gardens, be sure and see if you can spot him.
If redesigning your gardens is on your list of things to do, be sure and visit some of my favorite places to get ideas, the Atlanta Botanical Gardens, Piedmont Park and Callaway Gardens.
